Riverview Park in North Augusta, SC, has outdoor pickleball on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. on the tennis courts.

We're hoping to get more pickleball in the North Augusta area.  Rick Meyer, the North Augusta Director for Parks, Recreation and Tourism, wrote recently in his column (November 17, 2018) for the North Augusta Star: "Pickleball, a paddle sport that combines the elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, will soon be offered in the Activities Center during the morning and early afternoon hours. Pickleball is currently being offered on Tuesday evenings on the Riverview Park tennis courts."  As the local USAPA pickleball ambassador, I offered to help Riverview gym staff organize an indoor pickleball program but they declined to meet with me.  In January 2019, I received email from the person in charge of organizing indoor pickleball at the Riverview gym.  He said that the current gym members aren’t interested in pickleball.  Maybe someday, the city will build dedicated outdoor pickleball courts.

The bottom line seems to be that the indoor gym doesn’t want to tape lines for pickleball, and the outdoor tennis courts do not want to add painted lines for pickleball.  That leaves the Tuesday evening session with temporary vinyl markers instead of proper lines.  I don’t expect the situation to change anytime soon.

There are other places to play pickleball around the CSRA.  I support a small pickleball group in Edgefield.  You can find out more here:  http://velisco.com/pickleball/edgefield.html.  Aiken has a large, active pickleball group: http://aikenpickleball.com/ . There are also places to play in Augusta, including the Wilson Family Y: https://thefamilyy.org/programs/22511492/pickleball/

For other places, please see the USAPA "Places 2 Play" list here: https://www.places2play.org/
